KELVIN'S JUICE DIARY: Liver Tonic

I FOUND THIS JUICE RECIPE IN A BOOK CALLED ‘KEEP IT SIMPLE’ BY JASON VALE (THE JUICEMASTER). I HAVE BEEN DRINKING IT EVER SINCE BECAUSE THE INGREDIENTS ARE SO GOOD FOR MY LIVER HEALTH.

THIS JUICE (AMONG OTHERS) ALONGSIDE A HEALTHY DIET INCORPORATING PLENTY OF FRESH FRUIT AND VEGETABLES, AVOIDING ALCOHOL AND A REDUCED CONSUMPTION OF PROCESSED FOODS AND FOODS HIGH IN SUGAR, FAT AND SALT, HAS RETURNED MY LIVER INTO PEAK WORKING ORDER AFTER A DOUBLE LIVER TRANSPLANT IN 2012.

Ingredients include:

  • 2 APPLES

  • 1 CARROT

  • 1” SLICE LEMON WITH RIND ON (UNWAXED)

  • ¼ YELLOW BELL PEPPER

  • 1” SLICE CUCUMBER

  • ¼ PIECE CELERY

  • 1” BROCCOLI STEM

  • 1” SLICE RAW BEETROOT

PLACE THESE INGREDIENTS IN YOUR JUICER AND GO. THE RESULTING JUICE WILL LOOK A BIT CLOUDY DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF BEETROOT AND CARROT, BUT DON’T BE PUT OFF, IT TASTES GOOD, AND IT REALLY DOES BENEFIT YOUR LIVER.

SUMMARY OF INGREDIENTS:

APPLE:

  • EXTREMELY RICH IN IMPORTANT ANTIOXIDANTS, FLAVANOIDS AND DIETARY FIBRE.

  • PHYTONUTRIENTS AND ANTIOXIDANTS IN APPLES ARE BELIEVED TO HELP REDUCE THE RISK OF DEVELOPING CANCER, HYPERTENSION, DIABETES AND HEART DISEASE.

  • GOOD SOURCE OF VITAMIN C

CARROT:

  • HIGH IN BETACAROTENE (Good for maintaining healthy eyes).

  • GOOD SOURCE OF ANTI-OXIDANT AGENTS

  • RICH IN VITAMIN C, K, B8, FOLATE, POTASSIUM, IRON, COPPER AND MANGANESE

LEMON:

  • CONTAINS VITAMIN C, CITRIC ACID, FLAVANOIDS, B-COMPLEX VITAMINS, CALCIUM, COPPER, IRON, MANGANESE,PHOSPHORUS, POTASSIUM AND FIBRE

YELLOW BELL PEPPER:

CELERY:

  • CAN LOWER CHOLESTEROL AND BLOOD PRESSURE

  • EXCELLENT SOURCE OF VITAMIN K, AND MOLYBDENUM

  • GOOD SOURCE OF FOLATE, POTASSIUM, DIETARY FIBRE AND MANGANESE, VITAMINS A, B2, C AND B6, COPPER, CALCIUM, PHOSPHORUS AND MAGNESIUM

BROCCOLI:

  • EXCELLENT SOURCE OF VITAMIN C

  • USEFUL SOURCE OF BETA-CAROTENE (Anti-oxidant).

BEETROOT:
